Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery is an improvement procedure applied to women with small breasts. It also solves the symmetry problems in the breasts. This surgery is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made in the breasts and artificial implants are placed. Implants made of silicone contain saline solution or gel.
There are different breast augmentation methods depending on where the incision will be made. The most common of these is implant placement in the lower part of the chest, through an incision made in the natural skin fold. Post-surgery recovery may take several weeks. It is important to follow the doctor's instructions during this time.
Why is Breast Augmentation Preferred?
It is possible to list the reasons why people prefer breast augmentation as follows:
- To increase the sizes of breasts,
- To restore the shape of the breasts that have decreased in volume as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss by natural or surgical methods,
- To balance body size (for example, someone with small breasts and wide hips may want to increase their breasts),
- Correcting chest asymmetry,
- To enlarge congenitally immature breasts,
- To restore a breast from an illness.
What Should be Considered before Breast Augmentation Surgery?
When the patient decides on breast augmentation surgery, they should sign the consent form when they are sure that they are informed about all possible risks and complications.
After the routine examination, especially women over the age of 40 should have a mammogram against the possibility of cancer. Pregnant women or patients planning to become pregnant should inform the surgeon.
NOTE: Smoking-alcohol use should be stopped at least 6 weeks before the surgery to prevent complications. Over-the-counter medications, supplements, or even herbs used should be reported to the doctor. A few days before the operation, aspirin and blood thinners should not be taken.
